" Nunca fui considerada um exemplo de menina educada, boazinha, meiga, fofa, como todas deveriam ser. Sou desastrada mesmo, faço tudo errado, choro, danço, canto, falo palavrão, defendo as pessoas que amo, não sou delicada, me apaixono, brigo com tudo e com todos, me estresso facilmente e faço um infinito de coisas que não são consideradas fofas. Não sou perfeita, e pra falar a verdade, nem quero ser..."

Mother's diet during pregnancy alters baby's DNA →

ohyeahdevelopmentalbiology:

A mother’s diet during pregnancy can alter the DNA of her child and increase the risk of obesity, according to researchers.

The study, to be published in the journal Diabetes, showed that eating low levels of carbohydrate changed bits of DNA.

It then showed children with these changes were fatter.

The British Heart Foundation called for better nutritional and lifestyle support for women.

It is thought that a developing baby tries to predict the environment it will be born into, taking cues from its mother and adjusting its DNA.

A cluster of neural cells were derived from human embryonic stem cells in the lab of University of Wisconsin-Madison stem cell researcher and neurodevelopmental biologist Su-Chun Zhang. The motor neurons are shown in red; neural fibers appear green and the blue specks indicate DNA in cell nuclei. (via University of Wisconsin Stem cell and regenerative medicine center)

Recent reports that a simple test may hold the clues to how long a person will live … well, you know what they say about something that sounds too good to be true? The tests measure telomere length, the DNA that caps the ends of your chromosomes and shortens over time.
While some animal models (like mice) have shown a relationship to shortening telomeres and deadly diseases, the science just isn’t that strong according to Dr. Carol Greider. Oh yeah, she shared the Nobel for discovering the telomere.
So telomeres are certainly important in aging and cancer, but beware the snake-oil peddler who says he can tell you how long you will live with a simple blood test.
